According to junior Gabbie Kruse, the girls’ swim team has been improving quicker than last year, resulting in a successful swim meet against Bloomington Jefferson High School on Sept. 19.

“At our meets we’ve been trying really hard. We’ve been doing really good and it’s just been a great start to the season,” Kruse said.

According to senior Lily Rostal, the team prepared well for the meet by practicing technique and strategy.

“At practice we worked on the little things, like what we should do on our freestyle and breathing and dives,” Rostal said.

Coach Amanda Forsberg said the girls were tired before the meet due to all the other meets they had that week, but that didn’t stop them from trying their hardest.

“I was really excited how they bounced back today (from their previous meets), I thought it was a total team effort. Everyone swam really well,” Forsberg said.

Lily Rostal said that the hard work in preparation for the meet had paid off.

“I think the meet went really well. Jefferson was quite an even team with us so beating them was quite the challenge,” Rostal said.

According to Kruse, the highlight of the meet was the end when everyone was cheering for the 400 meter relay, because it was the last chance to get on the board.

“I think everyone realized how important this was and what a big competition this meet was compared to our last two meets,” Kruse said. “The energy was so crazy; everyone was screaming, we made up cheers as we went along and it was just a really fun vibe.”

Foresberg said this meet built confidence in our swimmers by making them realize that putting in the effort into practice pays off towards future meets.

“We’re starting to come together as a team and see how we can progress now that we have some times. This way, everyone can improve,” Forsberg said.

The next meet will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at St. Louis Park High School against Chanhassen. Visit gopark.org to find other swim meets.
