The girls’ lacrosse team has been meeting on Saturday mornings from 8-10 a.m. starting Oct. 10. It is optional for players to come, but has proved to be beneficial for everyone involved. According to senior captain Abby Meyer, these practices provide a time to do something active and reconnect with teammates.

“It’s nice to get something in for the weekend, especially on a Saturday,” Meyer said. “It feels nice to see everybody too.”

Coach Kyle Sweeney said a major benefit for players is simply getting extra time to practice. Since the team had its season canceled last spring, it is a great opportunity for everyone to play, according to Sweeney.

“If you take the practices too seriously, it creates a different atmosphere than if you’re just there to enjoy the sport and have fun with your team.

“The purpose of having the practices is so that people can pick up their stick,” Sweeney said. “We missed our whole season, so there might be some girls who really haven’t even thrown a ball in a while.”

According to senior Kate Gage, it is important to create a positive environment for players by having fun with the sport.

“If you come with a positive attitude, then everyone else will kind of will follow suit,” Gage said. “If you take the practices too seriously, it creates a different atmosphere than if you’re just there to enjoy the sport and have fun with your team.”

Though waking up early to play can be tiring, Meyer said it is well worth it for her and her teammates.

“I feel like everybody’s doing pretty well in the mornings. It’s not too bad. We’re obviously tired, but once we get started it’s just a lot of fun,” Meyer said.
