After a rough season, girls’ tennis sees improvement from the last and has hope for future seasons.

The girls’ tennis team started out its season with a non-conference schedule, meaning the scores of the games did not count against them in their conference record.  So far, the team has lost eight games and won two against Fridley and Columbia Heights.

Coach Dave Breitenbucher said he thinks that  having a tough non-conference schedule at the beginning of the season was essential to playing well as a team.

Although the girls haven’t had seen success in the scoresheet, junior Hallie Mogelson believes that the team played better than last year.

“We seem to be more aggressive and have a lot more skilled players” said Mogelson.

Junior Addy May Perkins believes that new skilled player will make a difference on the teams success in coming years.

“There are a lot of new players who are really skilled,” Perkins said. “They have brought a lot of competition to the varsity spots on the team.”

“We have three JV girls pushing for varsity,” Breitenbucher said

The motivation for players to be on varsity has led the team to be more aggressive and have increasing competition between players, according to Breitenbucher.

Senior Captain Arntson said she thinks Freshman Natalie  Lorentz was a deciding factor in improving the teams chances for a better season.

According to Tennisrecruiting.net ,a website the compiles ranks from different sources, Lorentz is the number one ranked player in Minnesota.

Breitenbucher said he thinks Lorentz is one of the team’s best examples for motivation and increased competition.

“The players see how much she puts into it and are inspired,” Breitenbucher said.

Although the team didn’t do as well as they had hoped, junior Sophia Noreen though the team still had a good  year.

“We tried our hardest during our games and really stepped it up against tougher opponents”

The team has its next game on October 2nd against Andover.
