Even though they have a new addition to their staff, the tennis coaches are ready to work their players. Carey Hermanson, one of the varsity coaches, remains prepared for the challenge.

“We are being more intentional with our practices. We are improving our fitness; our conditioning has increased,” Hermanson said.

With the beginner players, the new junior varsity coach, Christine Tvrdik, intends to establish a strong foundation that they can build upon.

“Building basic technique will really help the girls. I’ve already seen a lot of improvement just two weeks into the season,” she said.

The coaches note that the hard work has already paid off for their teams, who have won their first two games.

“Their outlook has improved; they can compete against stronger teams,” Hermanson said. “They’ve already won against teams that they lost to last year.”

Tvdirk plans to improve the moral of the teams by creating a constructive and supportive environment.

“The new girls are such a positive and hard working group, which is really paying off for them.”

Senior captain Sophia Noreen feels this new season will bring more involvement for all the girls on the team.

“We really wanted to focus on inclusion this year. We’re making sure everyone is having a good time and feeling respected,” she said.

Their next match will be against Wayzata on Tuesday, September 9th.
