Twice a week the girls’ tennis team went out to the courts to work on their aggressive swings and serves to make up for the loss of nine seniors last year.

Junior captain Natalie Lorentz said she is excited about the season and becoming a lead role for the team. She said she can’t wait to help her teammates grow as the season progresses.

“I believe we will really have a successful year,” Lorentz said. “With a lot of the girls training over the summer, it shows how much they’re ready to compete this year.”
Coach Christine Tvrdik said although the team is young, they are working hard and expecting to have a good season.

“When it comes to sections our goal is to advance as many girls as possible,” Tvrdik said. “With Natalie Lorentz captain and number one singles player, we’re hoping she advances to state, as she has come close in years prior.”

Lorentz said she believes their biggest competition will be Benilde-St. Margaret’s, a tough rival.

“It will be a great match because our girls have been training hard and really believing in themselves,” Lorentz said.

According to sophomore Maddie Lund, last year the team’s record was pretty even, yet they’re hoping to continue to improve.

“By helping out other teammates and providing each other with constructive criticism, we’ll really be able to elevate our skills,” Lund said.

Lund said her favorite part of the season is the connections she makes with her teammates on the court.

“I’m really looking forward to the bonding that happens outside of practice. It makes playing with everyone a lot more fun,” Lund said.
