After playing in her first singles match in a long time, junior Anna Jensen said she played well but struggled with endurance.

“I haven’t played singles in a while so it was good to play singles again, and I won so that was good,” Jensen said. “I got pretty tired quickly just because I’m not used to running that much in a match so I just need to work on endurance.”

According to coach Abby Rose, players who played doubles played especially well together and the team benefited from the good weather.

“Everyone was consistent and doubles were communicating well (and) working well together,” Rose said. “We definitely had better weather in our favor, last week was super hot and it’s really nice to have the windscreens up on the court.”

Sophomore Ava Jacobson said she was able to keep her positive mindset throughout the game which helped her keep up with the fast-paced match.

“The girl that I played made me run a lot, which made it harder to hit winner shots,” Jacobson said. “My mental game was better, I didn’t get as in my head and it’s been something I’ve been trying to work on.”

According to Rose, she enjoyed watching close matches ending in Park’s favor.

“Since some of the matches went pretty long, (we) just (need to work on) endurance, ” Rose said. “Especially on the (games) that have gone long and been close, on those we haven’t come out on top, so it’s fun to push through and see the victory on the other side.”

Jensen said she wasn’t used to playing singles and in future matches she wants to continue to encourage her teammates when she is not playing.

“I think I played well. It’s different because I’ve been playing doubles for most the season, so you kind of play differently,” Jensen said. ”Improving communication with my team is key and cheering on my teammates.”

According to Rose, before the next match the team will focus on making sure they are ready.

“(The team needs to) just practice warming up so that we’re feeling ready and in the zone and ready for the game,” Rose said.

The next match will take place 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at the high school tennis courts.
