After a fierce battle against Edina on Sept. 25, the girls volleyball team won 3-1, marking their 9th win of the season. The Orioles win puts their record at 9-2, giving the team a strong record.

Girls volleyball coach Whitney Meierotto-Simon is happy with how the girls played.

“I am very proud of them,” Meierotto-Simon said. “It was a huge win, I’m not sure St. Louis Park has ever beat Edina in volleyball. I’m very proud of them overall”.

Sophomore Lily Nugteren said she was glad with the way the team executed throughout the game.

“I think we did great,” Nugteren said. “We were able to get the first point of the game and I think that really helped us go into the [rest of the]  game with confidence.”

According to Nugteren, having a good team dynamic leads to more victories.

“We work really well together,” Nugteren said. ”There can be teams with really good players, but if they don’t know how to work with each other, they won’t succeed.”

According to Meierotto-Simon, the team is preparing for high pressure situations in their practices.

“In training we put [the girls] in very stressful situations, for example [losing] 9-12 in a game [to] 15,” Meierotto-Simon said.

The next varsity game will be Sept. 28 at 9 a.m  against Hopkins at Hopkins High school.
