The St. Louis Park baseball team took the first couple steps toward a successful season as they swung past Hopkins, Spring Lake Park and Cooper in its first three games.

Beginning the season, senior captain Danny Foltz was not sure what to expect from this season, but he said he still set his hopes high.

“I didn’t really know what to expect, because we lost so many good seniors; some who were All Conference, and an All State player,” Foltz said.

Coach Jim Nunn, who is starting his second season as the team’s head coach, was impressed by how his team started the season, but talks about continuing doing things right.

“They don’t give up,” Nunn said.  “From day one we talked about doing things right, and that is our goal.”

As the head coach of a young baseball Park baseball team, coach Nunn is 3-0 and said his team members showed resilience in their first three games.

“The biggest aspect that I noticed early on in the season, and was especially apparent in these two games was their resilience,” Nunn said.

With only five seniors this year, Nunn said there will be tough times through the season.

“We kind of hope there is a tough period in the season, so that we can learn from it,” Nunn said. “I’d rather have it during the season than during the playoffs.”

Weather conditions also play a large factor in the conditioning of the team who is limited to the Fieldhouse space when temperatures are too low. Foltz said despite the conditions, the players continue to work hard regardless of space.

“We come to practice everyday wanting to get better and coach Nunn helps us do that,” Foltz said.

Nunn said all his coaching staff ask the players to give their best.

“All we can ask from these guys is play the game, give their best effort, do it right, and whatever happens, happens,” he said

The Orioles will attempt to keep their winning streak alive when they play at 4:15 p.m. at Totino-Grace April 30.
