Since eighth grade, senior captain Lauren Bruun-Bryant has been a starting member of the girls’ varsity lacrosse team. Now she’s among the top 10 highest scorers in the state and said she is a key factor in how the team performs.

“I feel like since I’ve been on the team so long others look to me for advice,” Bruun-Bryant said. “How I act as a captain affects the rest of the players.”

Coach Kyle Sweeney coached Bruun-Bryant throughout her varsity career and said she plays an important leadership role on the team.

“She’ll pull aside new players and show them ways to improve,” she said. “She has a lot of leadership experience from being a captain her junior and senior years.”

According to sophomore Elena Basill, who is new to the varsity team, Bruun-Bryant’s intense leadership techniques are very beneficial to unify the team.

“She’s tough on us because she wants us to be better players,” Basill said. “She motivates us to work as hard as we can so we can become a better team.”

Since her high school career is coming to an end, Bruun-Bryant said she is hoping to bring her sense of leadership to college.

She will attend Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky., and will play for the relatively new Division II lacrosse team for the school.

“Since I’m coming to a newer team, I’ll have a lot to offer,” Bruun-Bryant said. “I know a lot about the game, and I have a special passion for it, which is hard to find.”
