Ending the season with 11 wins, 13 loses and 1 tie, Park/Hopkins prepares for their first section game by working on personal skills, according to head varsity coach Chris Erickson.

Erickson said the girls improved a lot on individual techniques.

“I think the individual skills have gotten a lot better and the systems are getting a little more acclimated to it,” Erickson said. “Overall, they’ve improved quite a bit on the small things we’ve been working on.”

Erickson said in order for the team to succeed in sections, they will work on techniques to help them win games.

“We will achieve that with hard work, discipline, working on the little things that we need to win games, not necessarily big things,” Erickson said. “Blocking shots, getting the puck out of the zone and limiting turnovers.”

Senior varsity player Elena Basill said with the season coming to an end, not playing hockey every day will be a change. She said she enjoyed winning against tough competition.

“I will miss not being at the rink everyday with my teammates,” Basill said. “My favorite memory of the season is beating Benilde and Minnetonka and just being with the team all the time.”

Junior Makayla Jones-Klausing said she enjoyed being with her team every day and playing in tournaments.

“I’ll miss practicing with the girls everyday. One of my favorite memories was the out-of-town tournament,” Jones-Klausing said.

Basill said she has the chance to play hockey in college, but is unsure if she will because she wants to focus on her classes.

“I have opportunities to play hockey at (Division 3) schools,” Basill said. “But I’m not sure if I will play yet because of my education.”

Sections begins at noon Feb. 6 at Parade Ice Arena against Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
