The Park boys’ swim team defeated Benilde-St. Margaret’s Dec. 19 after great performances from all swimmers, according to assistant coach Joe Yaeger.

“I think this was definitely a full-team meet today, from the junior varsity all the way to the varsity,” Yaeger said.

According to Yaeger, Park remains undefeated against Benilde-St. Margaret’s, something the team takes pride in.

“We’re undefeated against Benilde. (We) kept that tradition alive,” Yaeger said.

Senior captain Zachary Weiser said Benilde-St. Margaret’s is always one of their tougher opponents, but they were able to come out on top with encouragement from coaches.

“The coaches always tell us that we got to go out there and give it all that we got, and every year, we’re always trying to keep that undefeated streak,” Weiser said. “It’s always fun to swim against them, they’re usually a competitive team.”

Yaeger said the team put in a lot of work in practice, which allowed them to perform well during the meet.

“I think what contributed to this (meet), the last couple of practices have been really good and guys have been stepping up,” Yaeger said.

According to Weiser, the practices leading up to the meet were difficult, but they paid off during the meet.

“The biggest factor was everyone was giving it their all and everyone was improving since last week,” Weiser said. “We’ve had a lot of hard practices and it really showed up in the meet.”

According to Weiser, the team will have practices every day over winter break besides Christmas Day and New Years Day, which he said is a good way to keep everyone in check over the break.

“Coming in with a mentality over break that we’re going to work hard at practice (will) keep the team focused over break,” Weiser said.

The boys’ next meet is against Richfield at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at Park.
