After a 5-3 win against Buffalo, temporary coach Colin Hohman said the team started out with some difficulties, but pulled through a successful game.

“It was a fun game. We lost a player because he had an injury, but he had a really nice goal,” Hohman said. “The kids did a really good job of fighting through that adversity and ended up having a great third period. They were down by a goal going into the third period, and then we ended up winning by two, so for the first game they did a great job.”

Senior Drew Boyum said although the team was missing some players, it persevered and worked together to win the game.

“We had a good game. We were missing three of our best players, but when McCabe went out, we all kind of just decided that we didn’t want to lose and we came together as a team (and) got it done,” Boyum said.

Senior Alanna Franklin said watching the game was entertaining and she believes Park had an exciting and good first game.

“The game went really well, it was really fun to watch. They played really hard, the effort was there and they were doing a lot of offensive plays, which was really good. It was also nice just seeing a lot of my friends have really good plays and score some good goals,” Franklin said.

Although Hohman has only been a coach at Park for a short period of time, he feels enthusiastic and hopeful for the rest of the upcoming season and games.

“I’ve only been to two practices, so I was just kind of excited to see how they would do so today. It was super fun to be outside and watch and (see them) play hockey,” Hohman said.

According to Boyum, his hopes for this upcoming season are to win as many games as possible while still having fun.

“This season, I just hope to try and win all of our games. We want to try and go 8-0 or however many games there will be this year,” Boyum said.

According to Franklin, the energy from the players before the game was really positive which turned it into a successful game.

“There was a lot of passion and happiness going into the game, they all overall seemed really excited going in, and it ended up being a really good game,” Franklin said.

The next boys’ hockey game is still to be determined.
