The girls’ volleyball team traveled to Bloomington Jefferson High School to play the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars on Tuesday, September 27. The Orioles lost the game, dropping its record to 9-9 this season.

Head coach Whitney Meierotto-Simon said the team can win tough games, but the girls need to work to improve their skills.

“We just get in runs where we will make too many errors and the other teams capitalize on that,” Meierotto-Simon said. “The biggest thing for us is eliminating our own errors and once we do that we will win our games.”

According to Meierotto-Simon, the team lost the first set 17-25, the second set 11-25 and the third set 22-25.

“They beat us pretty well and I’m proud of how the girls came back and fought in the third game. They never lost fight,” Meierotto-Simon said.

Junior captain Kim Lindgren said the team must focus on keeping positive attitudes during tough games.

“We need to work on motivating ourselves more. We have the physical capabilities but we struggle mentally,” Lindgren said.

Meierotto-Simon said the coaches put the team in real game situations during practice in order to improve their ability to handle stress during games.

“We put them in pressured situations where they had to make a certain amount of good passes or they had to run,” Meierotto-Simon said. “If we put them in more pressured situations during practice, hopefully they will do better during games.”

The girls’ next game takes place at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School against the Benilde Red Knights.
