When did you first get introduced into sports?
When I was in elementary and preschool, I started playing basketball because my aunt played basketball, and then I played soccer for a little bit, and softball. Then I kind of stopped and did dance for a while.
What made you stick with lacrosse and volleyball?
I played volleyball because I didn’t want to play basketball—I liked it and there wasn’t a lot of running. It was a really fun sport and I think it’s really easy to pick up. Then lacrosse, I kind of was forced to do it by my best friend and I (ended up) liking it, but it’s a lot of running. It’s fine because now I’m the goalie, so I don’t have to run that much.
What has been your biggest motivation throughout your career?
My dad—my dad is very athletic and he wants all of his kids to be very athletic, and he’s very encouraging.
How does it feel being in your final season of high school sports?
It’s really sad. It’s kind of bittersweet because I really like playing the sport, but (because) I’m not going to continue it in college, I’m soaking in every moment.
How do each of your sports and activities complement each other?
Playing two different sports and also managing another sport kind of let me understand a lot of different things and put them together. For volleyball, I use a lot of the stuff that I did in volleyball for lacrosse and visa versa.
How have you been preparing for your lacrosse season?
We had Chillax (Club Lacrosse) during November. We did that for a month, and we’ve had captain’s practices every Monday and Wednesday since December. We also started lifting. Personally, I’ve been doing goalie clinics and stuff and just playing with my sisters in the backyard too.
What has the process of being the starting goalie been like?
It’s definitely tough. I wasn’t even expecting to do it. I thought it was going to be a one-time thing, but then I just kind of took this step up and just did it so the team wouldn’t have to struggle, but it’s been really nice. I really do enjoy being a goalie and I think I bring a lot to the team. It’s a very important position for us to have. I especially think that having a positive attitude as a goalie is very influential for the team instead of having a negative attitude.
How have you meshed with the lacrosse team in your new position?
I definitely got closer to the team (by) being the goalie. A lot of the girls are very empathetic with me because I just started last year, and now I’m the goalie, so I think they’re very patient and I think that’s very nice. They understand I’m not going to be perfect, but I’ve really grown with the team a lot, especially in the off-season.
What are your goals for this season?
My goals for the season are to not be too hard on myself like I was last season since I’m so new to the sport, and to make sure that the team keeps up a positive attitude.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned while being around sports?
Do not take (sports) for granted. I’ve had a lot of injuries that have set me back from sports when I’m still in season, but not being able to play it can really hurt to see.
