FlyOver America glides into popularity
New ride gains excitement
November 3, 2016
After riding the new FlyOver America ride at Nickelodeon Universe, sophomore Finnegan Reddan said he would recommend the ride to anyone.
“It kind of went over Lake Calhoun, which was kind of cool. I can roughly see where I live,” Reddan said. “It is also great how you get to see parts of the U.S. you haven’t seen before.”
According to the FlyOver website, FlyOver America is an aerial simulation using new in-flight technology to see American landmarks. Special effects featured in the ride include mists, scents and winds.
Junior Megan Perkins said she is excited to try out the ride.
“I find it quite interesting how a mere simulation can be so realistic. I would definitely consider going to try it out in the near future to see how accurate the depictions are of the places and see if technology can actually recreate something to the point where you feel like you are actually there,” Perkins said.
FlyOver America group sales manager Diane Mavis said students should come to the FlyOver America ride to experience something new.
“We are the only one of its kind in the U.S. (It’s) something entertaining (and) something different to do at the mall,” Mavis said.
Mavis said the ride goes to over 23 locations.
“The purpose of this ride is to entertain and educate people about the beauty of America,” Mavis said. “(Landmarks include) The Statue of Liberty, The Freedom Tower (and) The Golden Gate Bridge.”
According to Mavis, the FlyOver America ride provides a learning experience and is a highlight at Nickelodeon Universe.
“My favorite part is going over Chicago at night and my co-worker’s favorite part was going over the Florida Keys. It just depends on what your interests are,” Mavis said. “It has something for everyone.”
The FlyOver America is open from 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. Sundays at the Mall of America. Ticket prices at the gate are $16.95 for adults and $12.95 for children under 13.
