Predicting the next hot trends

History has a habit of repeating itself. Clothing and accessories tend to go through a cycle of being trendy, usually based on what used to be “in.” I am here to predict the upcoming trends and evaluate their “trendiness.”

First up, we have capri pants. These pants are just like any other pair of pants, except they reach the upper-mid calf rather than the ankle. They first became popular in the 50’s and 60’s when famous women, like Audrey Hepburn, started to wear them. They eventually died down, but their next wave of popularity was in the 80’s when they were called pedal pushers. These pedal pushers were also capris, but they were specifically made of denim material. Since the 80’s, these pants have not been considered “in,” but I predict that they will soon come back. I see these pants being low waisted and worn with either baby tees or longer tank tops.

Next up, I predict that popped collars will be the next big thing. Stemming from the vampire vibe, Count Dracula always rocked the iconic popped collar on his cloak which gave him a very tough look. In the 80’s, the preppy style was considered very cool and part of that look also included a popped collar. It was common to wear a Polo shirt of sorts and pop the collar in order to fit the style of the time. I see popped collars coming back with leather jackets specifically. This would fit into a more punk style with chains and dark colors scattered throughout.

My next trend prediction is blouses or long sleeved shirts with bell/wizard sleeves. These sleeves flare out dramatically at the wrist and give a nice whimsical kind of look. These sleeves were most popular in the 70’s when the “peasant” style was in fashion. Along with a mixture of loose fitting and flowy clothing. I see these sleeves being paired with bell bottom jeans and perhaps a hair scarf to add to the whimsical look. I find this style of shirt in particular to be very flattering on anyone and I look forward to them coming back into style.

Finally, I predict that flowy maxi skirts will also make a comeback. These skirts were popular in the 60’s among the hippie community. They were often tie dyed with bright colors and fun patterns. In contrast, I think that the long skirts that will soon come back into style will be satin and darker in color. They will be incorporated into a more elegant style for going out at night, or even to a fancy dinner. I see these skirts being worn with some dainty high heels and silver accessories. I also think that these skirts will be worn with a simple corset or tight fitting tank top.

When it comes to trend predicting, there is no exact science that can be 100% accurate. Things come into and out of fashion quite often. These are just my hot takes on the future trends of our generation.
