Sucker – Jonas Brothers ★★★☆☆

Growing up with the Jonas Brothers I was actually excited for their comeback and “Sucker” did not disappoint. The groovy pop sound works very well for this single. I usually don’t listen to this type of pop music but this song is so catchy I can’t help but like it. Men singing in falsetto is usually a turnoff, but the mixture of Nick’s falsetto and Joe’s deep voice was really a win for me. But what really made this song great was the music video, with the incorporation of all of the band members’ significant others. The clear design of the music video shows focus for the band on video and not just music. “Sucker” was an excellent choice for their comeback song and I can’t wait to hear more of their upcoming songs.

Please Me – Cardi B ft. Bruno Mars ★★☆☆☆

“Please Me” is more of a disappointment than I thought it would be. Bruno Mars and Cardi B are consistently good, I even liked their previous collab “Finesse.” But this song sadly fell short. Bruno Mars killed it, but Cardi B’s lyrics were random and didn’t seem to have any meaning. I love Bruno Mars because he has an incredible voice and music style, so it is easy to like the majority of his releases. However, I couldn’t get over Cardi B’s dumb lyrics. They made no sense and were filled with weird sex metaphors. The production of the song did a clean cut job of combining both artists’ sounds, which was a clear highlight in addition to Mars’ vocals. If you want to hear a Bruno Mars and Cardi B collab, listen to “Finesse” and just ignore “Please Me.”

Stay Flo – Solange ★★★★★

For lack of better words, “Stay Flo” is one of the best songs I’ve heard for a long time. It is the most chill, beautiful song I’ve ever heard and it makes me feel like I’m floating on a cloud. The soothing sound of Solange’s voice and production remind me of fellow R&B singer, H.E.R. and I couldn’t be happier. Both are amazing R&B artists and have great songs. I can only explain the beat of this song as psychedelic and synth-heavy, but not in an annoying way. The layering of Solange’s voice with her backup singers sounds like a choir of angels. The voices and production create a calm and soothing sound, definitely a song I would listen to on a daily basis. Solange is an amazing artist and this song is just further proof of that. I recommend that everyone takes a listen to this song, I don’t care if you don’t like R&B, you will love this song.
