Sequel provides nonstop laughter

The Bellas are back and better and funnier than ever. “Pitch Perfect 2”, starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Hailee Steinfeld, brings more laughs and ridiculousness than the original.

The sequel, directed by Elizabeth Banks, focuses on the Barden Bellas, who are determined to regain their title after a revealing show for the President of the United States. While the movie seems to be focused on the Bellas competing at the Acapella World Competition, there is also a charming backstory of leaving college and sisterhood.

While it’s hard to believe anything could match the burrito-throwing, horizontal-running comedy of the original movie, the jokes are fresher and even more hilarious. No spoilers will be given here, but Rebel Wilson’s solo scene is so ridiculous it’s hard to contain your laughter.

Unlike some sequel’s, the film did a great job of not relying too heavily on the first movie’s plot, giving the audience a new and original storyline to follow. Banks did a phenomenal job of bringing back the same, lovable Bellas, while letting the film stand on its own.

On the other hand, the music hits a flat note. The mashups are great, as expected, but the songs used are bland and a bit dull. The film lacked the exciting, body-moving songs the first one championed. The other a cappella group in the movie, a scary German group, brings an unusual sound which isn’t completely pleasing to the ear. However, the film’s final number does make you forget about the previous songs.

All in all, “Pitch Perfect 2” gives audiences a film they won’t forget and jokes they’ll want to hear again. Bravo, Bellas, bravo.
