Adding a new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Captain Marvel” creates a spectacular entertainment experience, as we follow Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).

Similar to all other Marvel movies, “Captain Marvel” begins with the classic Marvel intro. However, this time the classic Marvel intro has no superheroes but instead is filled with pictures and memories of the late Stan Lee, the creator of Marvel. This new intro is the perfect beginning for a brand new hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The start of the movie is very choppy, and the plot was a little hard to follow. A lot of jumping around, new unexplained technology and a couple of fight scenes unfold. We are introduced to two completely new species, but not much is told about either of them.

Finally, after a slow start to the movie, a battle scene takes place. Captain Marvel crashes through the ceiling of a Blockbuster store, and the story is finally in a more familiar world. This well-developed connection paired with some comic relief is exactly what the movie needed from the start.

Once on Earth, the movie becomes substantially more enjoyable. With the film set in the ‘90s, it was nostalgic for older viewers, and a ‘90s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) provided a sense of joy and excitement for younger viewers like me.

As Captain Marvel’s past unfolds, so does the plot of the movie. With a huge plot twist midway through the movie, I was sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.

The cinematography, in addition to excellent CGI, made “Captain Marvel” exceed my expectations. With fights both in space and on land, there is a wide variety to keep viewers entertained and refreshed. It was very easy to forget that a lot of what was going on was CGI and not real life.

With a rework and shortening of the first half of the movie not on Earth, “Captain Marvel” would be next-to-perfect. The beautiful cinematography and the well-timed suspense make this movie increasingly enjoyable. After some time, I found myself wishing for an even longer movie.
