During these unprecedented times, it is a good opportunity to try out different types of candies to lighten up your mood. In this review, I will be sharing my favorite Mexican candies, and I want others to get to know more about the Mexican culture. After reading this review, I recommend you go try out one of the Mexican candies or all if you are interested. You can buy these candies at any Mexican store in Minneapolis. Some examples of stores you can go to are the Dulcemex, Fiesta Mexican Y más, and Dulceria La Pinata.

1. Paleta Payaso 

Paleta Payaso is one of my all-time favorite Mexican candies. I enjoyed eating this as a child and still do now. It’s a fluffy marshmallow lollipop coated with chocolate and gummies that form a smile. One bite into the rich and gooey marshmallow will leave you wanting more. I recommend people go out and try this candy because the combination of smooth chocolate and marshmallow together creates a strong, nice flavor in your mouth as it melts inside. After I take a bite out of the lollipop, I realize how exceptional the taste is. Plus the gummies, which are colored red for the mouth and blue for the eyes, add a fun style to the Paleta Payaso and are super sweet. Although it is great, it does come with some flaws. For example, the chocolate coating is a bit flaky and it could easily fall apart. But this candy brings back so many memories of my childhood and it lives by the motto “la cara de la diversión” which translates in english to “face of fun.” I believe you should try it out for yourself to add some fun rich flavors into your life.

    2. Bubulubu

This Mexican candy is filled with a fluffy marshmallow and sweet strawberry and the outside is coated with chocolate. The combination works very well with each other and it tastes great. I would suggest anyone try it out at one point or another. Although the name may be weird, the flavor is superb. The gooey rich strawberry filled jelly on the inside with the combination of the marshmallow is sure to melt into your mouth. This is one of my favorite chocolate Mexican candies because of the mix of flavors. They offer this candy in a variety of sizes but no matter what size you buy it in, it will taste great. I recommend everyone to try Bubulubu because you will find yourself wanting more after taking a single bite, which is why this candy gets a rating of five stars.

      3. De la Rosa Mazapan 

This is a typical Mexican candy that you can find in any hispanic supermarket. This is a round, chewy candy that is made up of crushed peanuts and is wrapped up to keep the shape. The flavor is great for those who like peanuts. It’s a very sweet and delicious candy to have. Also, I would handle this candy with caution when you are eating it because it could break into pieces easily, but if you are careful to not shatter the Mazapan, you will surely appreciate the flavor of this rounded peanut candy. When I find this sugary candy lying somewhere in the kitchen, I immediately grab it to eat as a nice snack. The taste is so rich and savory that you will want to have more. I suggest you try it out and you will find the peanut flavor in it to be exceptional.

     4. Duvalin 

What more could I say about this candy except that it is one of the best out there. Duvalin offers a creamy, sweet flavor and it’s no wonder that this is, at least to me, a classic Latino favorite. This candy comes in a little plastic dish with a spoon to scoop out the cream in the combo of flavors. I enjoy the combination of flavors it offers and you can find a combination you enjoy. Although this candy is truly the best, there is one down side and it’s that portion is a bit small to my liking. If only the portion size was a bit bigger I would rate it five stars out of five stars. I like to eat the vanilla and chocolate cream combination, but it’s up to you to decide which blend of flavor you would prefer eating. This smooth and creamy candy is a must to try out.

     5. Pelon Pelo Rico

Another fun candy that is definitely worth trying is the Pelon Pelo Rico. For this candy, you would need to press down the bottle in order for the jell tamarind flavored spaghetti strings to come out. I really enjoy eating this Mexican candy and the flavor is so good. It’s one of my favorites to eat and I would always press the bottle down all the way to get the most out of the candy. Although it can be a struggle at times to use your strength to get the string out of the bottle, it will be worth it. I get excited when the tamarind flavored strings come out because the flavor is fantastic. It’s an enjoyable candy to eat but it is tangy and mildly spicy. I am pretty sensitive to spicy types of food but I would still say the Pelon Pelo Rico is amazing. Overall, the flavor is a mixture of sweet, salty and spicy, making this a great candy option for people into eating spicy candy.
