To many this past year has been crazy and hasn’t felt real, especially during the holidays. People need to find other ways to make the holidays feel more normal. One way is going to a light show. The Glow festival is located at the Minnesota state fairgrounds, about 20 minutes from St. Louis Park.

Last year, the festival was a drive-thru due to COVID-19, but this year, it is a walk through and the staff advise people to dress warmly. This event goes on until Jan 2.

Tickets, which can be purchased through the glowholiday.com website are required for the event.  Tickets are $20.75 for adults then for ages 5-12 it’s $12.75, then children four and under are free. You have to either print out your ticket or have it on your phone.

After your ticket gets scanned, you see all these lights that are in all different shapes as well as presents, gingerbread men, ornaments and winter animals. As I walked the paths I saw a lit up forest of pine trees made up of warm white lights. Also, a huge lit up tree right in the center of the grounds that turned all different colors and patterns that synced up with music and huge reindeers and polar bears all over the grounds.

Bring a card or cash with you since they do provide food that you would find during the state fair season like pronto pups, mini donuts, fried pickles, lemonade and hot chocolate. These hot foods are perfect for cold weather. They also play holiday  music throughout the festival, including some made by Prince as a tribute to him, as the huge tree turns purple to purple rain. You are also able to ride the sky ride across the grounds.

The festival is a great photo-op for your Instagram, and selfies for Snapchat. Although it can cost a lot of money depending on the number of people you go with, it’s worth it. It’s good for kids as there are many activities for them and if you are looking for a place  to hangout with friends or a special someone.
