‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ sizzles with chemistry

Scandal, substance abuse, screaming

After waiting years for an adaptation of one of my favorite fictional bands that seemed real while reading, Amazon Prime Video pulled everything together into a neat and intriguing bow for viewers to devour every week and released the first episodes March 3.

Based on the 2019 novel, after their fame from the 70’s settled down, Daisy Jones and The Six members retrace and tell their sides of the story about the bands split during the height of their popularity, in the format of a documentary. The documentary style embraces a series of interviews, concert clips and recording sessions in order for the audience to get a behind-the-scenes look.

Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) serves as a captivating lead with a raw personality and her chemistry between costar Billy Dunne (Sam Claffin) is undeniably apparent and brings out all of the tension. Although the start of the show did take a minute to pick up, when it did, I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen.

The show itself has a very nostalgic feel with frequent nodes to different pop culture references like, “Almost Famous” (2000). Being completely honest, this documentary style is exactly what I pictured if William from “Almost Famous” decided to interview The Six instead of Stillwater.

The soundtrack is a masterpiece that I have on repeat in my head. I was so excited for the original songs to be released since the lyrics were teased in the book. Each song sounds very heartfelt and made the storyline so much more impactful. My favorite songs were “Regret Me” and “Aurora” because their voices meshed so well together, along with the catchy beats.

Costume designer Denise Wingate did a fantastic job curating well thought out and accurate outfits that fit each character’s personalities as well as the time period. Another unique addition was that since it was produced by Amazon — they created a storefront for inspired clothing pieces, beauty products as well as original merchandise.

Only a couple of episodes were released weekly, which made it easier for me not to just sit in my room the entire day and binge the entire series. I got to savor and sit with my thoughts in anticipation for the next episode to come out which made the viewing experience so much better.

Overall, I really enjoyed watching “Daisy Jones & The Six.” The anticipation killed me while I was waiting for it to finally be released but when it did, it surpassed my expectations.
