The beloved horror franchise “Saw” has just come out with the final installment of the movie series with “Saw X.” The movie was finally released Sept. 29, and it serves as a sequel to the original Saw movie, “Saw,” and a prequel to “Saw ll.” The promotion for the movie showed ads of different traps and machines for the movie. Some movie theaters did their own promotions for the film, such as the movie theater Cinemark who promoted the movie by making custom Jigsaw popcorn buckets and drink cups with glowing red eyes.
The movie follows the main character, John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, (Tobin Bell) getting diagnosed with a disease, and he’s told that he has less than a year to live. He tries to find people that are going through the same thing as him, going to seminars and trying to find a way to get cured. He finds a doctor that says they can cure him, but they lie to him and steal his money. They have done this many times before. To get back at them he makes them play games and do tasks in a certain amount of time. If they fail to finish their task before the time is up they die. But if they can, they win their lives. The movie has twists and turns with six blood boiling traps that are filled with blood and gore that will have your stomach turning the entire movie.
This movie had great acting — Tobin Bell did a fantastic job playing Jigsaw. He portrays Jigsaw so well with his emotionless and sinister looks. In my opinion, all of the actors did an outstanding job playing their roles. I loved how they looked like they were in pain and afraid for their lives, it made it feel realistic. Synnøve Macody Lund plays Dr. Cecilia Pederson very well in this movie, and Jigsaw’s other victims played their roles very well — from the fear in their eyes to the pain they showed, they really made it look like they were really getting tortured.
The props in this film were great. I thought they did a fantastic job making the props for this movie. My favorite thing about these props is that they were very realistic, everything from the traps to the dis-attached body limbs. All six of the torture devices were very unique and no traps were similar to each other, they were all creepy and disturbing in their own way. The creative team did an incredible job in creating these props.
The movie’s soundtrack really fits the vibe of the movie. In different scenes of the movie, the music reflects on what is going on in the film. The soundtrack adds more excitement and suspense in the film. If it’s a chase scene, the music is very upbeat and suspenseful, but if it’s a sad scene the music turns quite calm and soft. The director did a great job choosing what music should be in what spot in the movie.
The costumes weren’t too special — they were mostly normal clothes that you would see every day at school or in the city. I think the director didn’t want us to focus on what they were wearing but what they had to go through in this film. However, there was one costume that did catch my eye: the iconic pig suit. This is a suit that appears throughout the franchise and it is outstanding. It is very mysterious, creepy and puts fear in the victims eyes.
In my opinion, “Saw X” is one of the best Saw movies in the franchise, and one of the best horror films of the year. As a casual horror fan, this movie wasn’t too creepy or scary, but it still had some moments where I had to look away because of how gory the scenes were. However, I still believe “Saw X” is a great movie — it is a great blend of horror and a good plot and story. The acting, props and soundtrack, all of these things make this a great movie. The marketing and promotion for the movie from Cinemark with the popcorn bucket and the cup made the movie experience for me even better. Overall, I think this movie is fantastic, but beware of what you are signing up for when buying your tickets.
