The movie “Our Little Secret,” released Nov. 27, is a basic but cute movie that can help put viewers into the holiday spirit. Written by Hailey DeDominicis, directed by Stephen Herek and produced by Lisa Gooding and Mike Eliot, this movie features your typical holiday romance movie with a few unique twists.
The movie features Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding), who used to be together back in 2014 but broke up when Avery moved to London. Ten years later, they are both dating separate people. Avery is going with her boyfriend Cameron (Jon Rudnitsky) to his parent’s house and Logan is going with his girlfriend Cassie (Katie Baker) to her parent’s house. Unknowingly to both Logan and Avery, Cameron and Cassie are siblings so now they will have to be around each other for the whole holiday season without having seen each other for a decade. There are lots of twists and turns that keep the movie interesting and many side characters who help add to the storyline along the way.
I love a good movie to put me in the holiday spirit, and “Our Little Secret” did not disappoint. This movie was very cozy with a good storyline and a few funny scenes. Although there are many Christmas movies out there similar to this one, “Our Little Secret” did not bore me because the script and characters were captivating enough to not make it entirely like all the other movies out on Netflix around this time of year.
Lindsay Lohan, starring in the main role as a character named Avery, really stuck out because she is in many movies and always does a good job. She makes many movies, especially holiday movies, very iconic because she is a well-known actress. She was able to make the movie so much better because she is so professional and such a good actress. She was my favorite in the cast, but another person who was picked perfectly for their role was Kristin Chenworth playing the rich mom, Erica. She played her role perfectly and made me laugh many times.
The soundtrack in the movie was really good and made the movie seem more comforting since it featured many classic Christmas songs like the song “Joy to the World” or “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” It made it seem more cozy and like a very classic holiday movie. Another factor in the movie was the costumes. Most of the time, the outfits that the characters would wear just blended right into the scenes and were not very important. I normally want to see costumes that I will remember and notice — in this scenario, it works because I was able to focus on the script and the outfits just seemed more cozy. There were lots of jackets, sweaters and jeans which added to the comforting wintertime mood.
The script of this movie was very well put together. The different plots and storylines were perfect in the movie. It started out with the backstory of Avery and Logan and then jumped right into a different scene ten years later. Many holiday movies are not interesting at all, instead being very repetitive and making you cringe. This movie did not. It was the perfect blend of a classic holiday romance and a newer plot that gets you interested in what is going to happen next. The cinematography was also very good. Certain things that stuck out to me was the great lighting, the camera angles and movements were also creative and certain colors really popped in certain parts of the movie.
Overall, the movie “Our Little Secret” was mainly your typical holiday romance but it also had parts that stuck out and made it unique. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and I would definitely watch it again later on in the season. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a movie where they can curl up by the fireplace and get into the holiday spirit.
