Pops concert features ’90s music
Choir students come together in harmony for one last song of the year

With the year coming to an end, the choir students at the school will take part in their final performance. This year’s theme is the ‘90s, with music from Disney films such as the “The Lion King” and “Newsies,” according to choir teacher John Myszkowski.
Myszkowski said the choir students started choosing music from the ‘40s and then worked their way up to the ‘90s.
“We have been doing different decades, started with the 40’s and skipped the ‘90s last year and chose the 30’s,” Myszkowski said. “ I noticed that Disney films contained ‘90s music so I ordered some ‘90s music from Germany because I couldn’t find any great ‘90s music here in the United States.”
Myszkowski said the students were excited to know that they were doing music from the ‘90s because the music was a lot closer to being current.
“The songs are from the ‘90s closer to being current, which was a big deal to the students because some of their friends are going to be singing a solo,” Myszkowski said.
In Addition, Myszkowski said the Pops concert has always been part of the choir students last performance of the year, with a different decade each year.
Myszkowski said the concert is a way to let the students feel a sense of individualism.
“The seniors auditioned to do a solo of their choosing, which allowed the students to be heard given that this whole year we sang as a group, all together,” Myszkowski said.
Junior Charis Tshihamba said the students will try to dress up as authentically as they can for the ‘90s.
“We will be dressing for the concert by following the ‘90s fashion trend,” Tshihamba said.
Myszkowski said anyone can come, the concert will start at approximately 6:00pm to around 9:00pm May 29.
“Anyone can participate. They can get a ticket from any choir singer in order to go,” Myszkowski said.
Junior Asha Jeyte said it would be a concert she would enjoy participating in since she loves ‘90s music.
“I think it would be really cool to see how other students interpret ‘90s music,” Jeyte said.
Anyone interested in going should buy a ticket from any choir student, according to Myszkowski.
