Teen Lit Con to engage readers in discussions, activities
Convention held for fourth year
April 28, 2017
After learning about Teen Lit Con, an event for students to meet other book enthusiasts, junior Ciara Woida felt interested in the opportunity to participate.
Woida said she thinks Teen Lit Con provides avid book readers with a pleasant and inviting way to connect with the authors and other readers.
“It’s really cool that you get to meet the authors and get to talk to them about why they wrote the books they did, what process went into writing the book and strategies for writing,” Woida said. “Also, getting to meet people who also like to read, I am really passionate about reading (and) I read a lot of different books.”
Library media specialist and book club adviser Ellen George said the convention has various events planned for readers to learn more about writing.
“This year (Teen Lit Con is) going to have a session on graphic novels,” George said. “Then they’re going to have a Minnesota authors panel talking about their work and writing and a writers workshop where they’ll give you lots of great book ideas.”
According to George, while there is no cost to attend the event, lunches are not provided.
“(Teen Lit Con is) free and you can get a free ride there (through) the bus cooperation with Edina high school,” George said. “You have to bring your own money for lunch (and) they sell pizza and some things to drink there or (you can) bring your own lunch.”
Woida said readers at Teen Lit Con can discuss their interpretations of the books and learn about the authors’ intent behind their respective books.
“(Teen Lit Con is) a good experience because you get to see how other people read the same books because everyone reads books a little differently,” Woida said. “You also get to see what the authors were thinking when they wrote the books and make sense (of) what they meant.”
According to George, copies of the books being discussed are available in the library.
“We have copies of all these books at our library and whatever hasn’t been checked out is sitting up on a display by the circulation desk so you can just come in and browse” George said.
According to George, Teen Lit Con will be May 6. George said students can visit the LMC for more information.
