Excitement filled the room as seniors anxiously waited to get crowned king and queen during this years coronation, an annual event at Park.
Senior and Homecoming Queen Doreen Moranga said she feels thrilled and honored to be selected as this year’s queen.
“I associate with every group we have (at Park) so it is cool I can represent someone that does talk to every single group,” Moranga said.
Family members and friends filled the auditorium to share the enthusiasm with their favorite nominees.
Junior Zoe Zachek said it was fun to support all of her close friends who were nominated.
“I have never been to a coronation ceremony before. I’m just excited to see it all happen,” Zachek said.
Student Council members Cailey Hansen-Mahoney, Dani Orloff and Leila Raymond volunteered to help kick off the night’s event. Nominees walked down the auditorium rows while Student Council members named off some of their favorite foods and fondest high school memories.
Student Council adviser Sarah Lindenberg said she believes the Coronation is a great time for seniors to be recognized and celebrated at the high school.
“It is a traditional high school event, fun to participate in and emphasizing coming together as a community and making (Park) better,” Lindenberg said.
There were 20 senior nominees that were voted for Coronation, however Doreen Moranga and Terrence O’Brien took the thrones as official king and queen.
Freshman Ben Sanford said he was proud to see his sister Nicole Sanford on stage at the event and believes coronation is a tradition that should continue in the future.
“It is a good way for people to come together as a school and to celebrate all the seniors,” Sanford said.
After the ceremony was completed, everyone was invited to celebrate with a pizza after party. Food, desserts plus drinks were provided by Cookie Cart, Cub Foods and Papa Johns who worked alongside Student Council.
Movie on the Field, the next event for Homecoming week, will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Park track course.
