Ping-pong produces dismal turnout
Tournament converts into small pickup games
Student Council’s attempt of incorporating a ping-pong tournament with this year’s movie on the field was almost cancelled as a result of very few people signing up to participate, according to junior Student Council representative Cailey Hansen-Mahoney.
Student Council adviser Sarah Lindenberg said one factor in the small turnout may have been excitement over buying tickets for this year’s dance.
“I think with dance tickets being kind of higher (priority) this year, it kind of overshadowed the sign up,” Lindenberg said.
Student Council representatives eventually brought out a ping-pong table outside next to the movie, where some students and teachers initiated small no-rules pickup games.
Senior Jeffrey Robinson Jr., one of the few who came to play ping-pong, said he enjoyed playing in pick-up games.
“It’s just another sport to play, another sport that people will just gather around and have fun with,” Robinson Jr. said.
According to senior Student Council president Sophie Yarosh, the many sporting events taking place may have also impacted the turnout for the ping-pong tournament.
“A lot of people seemed interested when I (suggested ping-pong) because it sounded more fun for a lot of people than movie on the field I think, but I know there’s a ton of sporting events going on and no one could go,” Yarosh said.
The Homecoming football game against Holy Angels Academy will begin 7 p.m. on Friday Sept. 15 at the stadium.
