When sophomore Sam Sietsema arrived at the Homecoming dance on Saturday night, he was excited to see that the glow theme worked out.

“(The) glow in the dark thing was definitely successful because when you were in the dark side of the gym, it was just blacklights, strobes (and) a glow in the dark vibe,” Sietsema said.

Student Council advisor Sarah Lindenberg said she thought the dance was a huge hit.

“From what I’ve heard, it seems like the dance was (successful) just by the indication that a lot of students stuck around until pretty much the end,” Lindenberg said.

Junior Caroline Garland said the the amount of people in attendance took away from the theme.

“I don’t think that the theme was really that visible mostly because there were so many people in the gym, so the lights were not directly on people,” Garland said.

Garland said, however, that the location of the dance itself was great.

“I really liked having the dance at the school. I think it made transportation a lot easier, and I (never) really thought that having it at other places was that special anyway,” Garland said.

According to Lindenberg, having the dance at the school provided many advantages to the event.

“The other venues that we use are kind of expensive and have a lot of rules around them,” Lindenberg said. “We were able to bring down the ticket price significantly.”

Sietsema said, however, that the best part of the dance was getting to spend time with their friends and get together with the school.

“What made me want to come to the dance this year was definitely the people because people are just trying to have fun and that’s (a great) thing.”
