SLP Streetwear hosts fall lookbook
Club struggles with underclassmen membership

As SLP Streetwear dealt with COVID-19 last year, they continued to meet and go through different presentations. According to senior president Anna Overall, she is planning to repeat these presentations this year.
“We did a clothing-making competition, so we’ll do different things and we’ll have prizes. We’ll do some presentations. Education-wise, we’re gonna do corruption in the designer field,” Overall said. “We’ll talk about different outbreaks that have happened within high fashion and what is happening in the media and in the fashion industry in general. Sometimes we just do fashion education, (sometimes) we’ll just watch a video.”
In the last meeting, Streetwear did a fall lookbook, consisting of a slideshow of different people’s fall styles. Sophomore Ruby Penna said she is intrigued by presentations like these.
“I definitely like the presentations that they have. Anna Overall came up with a presentation about scandals within the fashion industry,” Penna said. “Those things have either been swept under the rug, or they’re not known about and her going over those is really cool to talk about.”
Sophomore member Evy Overall said the reason she and her sister, Anna, originally joined the club was because they wanted to learn more about style.
“All the different styles around this club (are very cool),” Evy Overall said. “And (the club) is not just limited to one sort of style, everyone’s different.”
According to Anna Overall, she has faced some challenges recruiting underclassmen for SLP Streetwear this year, but she’s looking at different strategies to recruit.
“I have a younger sister that’s a sophomore this year, but I’m going to reach out to some of the younger classes,” Anna Overall said. “For sure at some point in the school year we’re going to talk to freshmen classes and go around (saying), ‘if you guys want to join Streetwear next year, it’s a really great club.’”
Penna said she’s worried about the community next year, given there are many upperclassmen that will graduate.
“I definitely like the community that’s in there, obviously, but they’re either seniors or juniors. The next few years, it’s going to rotate out,” Penna said. “And then I know that the community will change, because there’s gonna be new people and other people in charge.”
