Reflecting on JSU’s (Jewish Student Union) latest meeting, Senior Ella Roether said she was impressed with the meeting, despite the usual adviser being absent.
“(The meeting) went really well. Our adviser was out of town, so we had the person below her come, but it still went really well,” Roether said.
Sophomore Saul Ziss said that being around other members of the Jewish community is his favorite part of the JSU.
“(My favorite part of JSU is) being with other Jews and connecting through the school,” Ziss said.
Substitute Adviser Marell Jaffa said she thought the students were very interactive at the meeting.
“(It) went pretty well,” Jaffa said “The kids were receptive and curious.”
Roether said that JSU has been a nice space and a community for students to feel safe in amidst growing tensions.
“It’s really nice to have a community that all share something,” Roether said. “In the past couple of years, there’s been a lot of anti-Semitism in our school and our country in general, so having a space where people feel comfortable and can be themselves is really important.”
Jaffa said one of her favorite parts of JSU is meeting future pillars of Park’s Jewish community.
“(I enjoy) meeting fellow Jews. I love meeting the future leaders of our Jewish Community,” Jaffa said.
The JSU’s next meeting is scheduled at 3:20 p.m. Jan. 20 in room B238. For more information on joining, contact Toby Khabie ([email protected]).
