The DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Storiole is a store for students to buy clothes, snacks and slushies during lunch time. The Storiole raises money for their class to keep their inventory of food and clothes up, and they also raise money for their DECA field trips. The deca class has a holiday bundle that raises money for the class. The bundles include three different pieces of clothing: a hooded SLP sweatshirt, a tri-colored shirt and SLP branded sweatpants — all for $80.
According to DECA advisor Abby Lugo, the profits the students make go back to the DECA class for the students to have more opportunities.
“It’s a student-run business,” Lugo said. “And we use the profits to aid in helping students join and be a member of DECA, as well as sending it back to the students.”
Senior Alicia Margalli said the bundle is a great deal and that you can’t pass on the savings that are available.
“I think you’re obviously saving money and it can be an easy way for someone to buy as a Christmas or holiday gift,” Margalli said. “So I think it’s a great deal.”
According to Junior Alexa Nguyen, the design process for the merch is a group project.
“We, as a class, just brainstormed the ideas for the designs, we also looked back on last year’s design and modified those and used them as a template for this year,” Nguyen said. “Then as a group we designed the shirts in class.”
Lugo said the DECA class is more like a real life experience.
“It’s real life experience and it’s lab learning,” Lugo said. “So instead of just learning from a textbook or from just the teacher, I get to facilitate and coach their learning through actual application of running businesses in this course.”
According to Nguyen, the idea of the bundle is a great deal for your pocket in terms of saving.
“Because you get a lot in the bundle and you’re saving money while you buy it,” Nguyen said. “It gives a variety of things that they don’t have to have to pick and choose. They just get a bunch of things for a cheaper price.”
According to Margalli, the bundle is a great way to make more money and sell more of their inventory.
“(It’s a good) way to sell more inventory, I would say it benefits us to sell more and raise more money for DECA,” Margalli said.
Deca meets everyday in fourth hour to come up with new ideas for their storiole and their bundles.
