DECA provides students with marketing skills

Sophomore Amy Bachman hopes to walk away from the upcoming Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Fall Leadership Conference with a greater knowledge of business and competition.
“My goal is to learn and take away as much as I can from the convention so I can do my best and succeed in DECA,” Bachman said.
DECA, is a business and marketing club offered to students in schools in over 25 states and eight countries. High school membership exceeds 180,000 students, who compete at various state, regional and national events in numerous categories. The Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) is a state convention held yearly to introduce students to the competition process.
Vice President of Special Projects in Park’s DECA club senior Benj Fischman said he thinks FLC offers great opportunities for aspiring DECA members.
“There are many lectures (members) can attend on anything business related and workshops to sit in on,” Fischman said. “It provides eager students with the chance to prepare themselves for competition.”
Bachman said she encourages other students, especially underclassmen, to participate in FLC and other DECA conventions.
“The (conventions) provide opportunities to meet new people and make new friends and also do well in DECA,” Bachman said.
FLC will be held Oct. 28 and 29 at the Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington, MN.
