Female members join tech repair service

Historically a male-dominated club, Park Tech is seeing increased interest from female students.

Park Tech is a student run business that repairs computers, laptops, cell phones and video game consoles.

Junior member Alary Loper said she joined the organization after hearing about it on the morning announcements.

“It sounded like I could fit in. Also, I knew some people in Park Tech already and they encouraged me to join,” she said.

Since becoming a part of Park Tech, Loper said she has found it to be difficult being one of the only girls in the club.

“It’s pretty intimidating,” Loper said. “It’s been such a male-dominated program for so long that they don’t really know how to work with girls.”

Park Tech general manager Dylan Dworsky said he hopes all people feel welcome while in Park Tech.

“I have personally worked with all four of (the girls) to make them feel more comfortable in the type of environment that Park Tech is,” Dworksy said.

Senior member Aaron Silberman said through his experience in the club he thinks it is a very accepting group in general.

“We don’t care really care who you are if you want to work with computers then you’re in the right place,” Silberman said.

Interested students will be able to apply for second semester membership in January by talking to Park Tech adviser David Engelhart.
