Choral groups prepare for district choral festival
October 25, 2014
Practice for the District Choral Festival began at the beginning of the school year, according to choral director, John Myszkowski.
This year, the high school choral groups will be performing many familiar songs acapella. Songs the choir groups are set to perform include, “Stay With Me,” by Sam Smith, “Counting Stars,” by OneRepublic and more.
Myszkowski said he chose to perform more difficult songs this year because of the influx of students joining choir as well as the beneficiality for the students.
“This year it’s easier to do more difficult songs because we have more kids in choir,” he said. “Learning songs acapella is good training for the students to get their ears trained so they’re not always relying on an accompaniment.”
Senior Hannah Holmquist said she believes singing songs that are more familiar is a way to further interest the audience.
“When you sing more familiar songs it’s easier for the audience to become interested with the performance,” Holmquist said.
To further prepare for the event, the choral groups will be joined by a student teacher the week before the performance to help with finalizing choir sections.
Myszkowski said bringing in a student teacher allows each choir section to be listened to individually so each section performs to the best of their ability.
“So far, all choral groups have been working really hard and it will be nice for them to see their hard work pay off at the event,” Myszkowski said.
The District Choral Festival will take place at 7p.m. Oct. 27th in the main gym.
