Freshman Annabella Strathman said she never thought she would be on a math team. But once she joined, she was glad with the progress she made throughout the season.

Adviser Kristin Johnson said even though the students have made mistakes in past meets, they have progressed since they first started competing.

“We’ve had our ups and downs,” Johnson said. “The first meet went really well, we did not do well the second meet but we did well on the third meet.”

Johnson said she is proud of her students because they have come a long way since the beginning of the season.

“Personally as a teacher and a coach seeing some of these kids that I’ve had in class that have been on math team for a couple years start to blossom, it has been a great experience,” Johnson said.

Strathman said this season brought a lot of competition and believes the team has improved since the beginning of the season.

“I think my first year of being on the math team has gone pretty well,” Strathman said. “Our numbers got a lot stronger since we started competing this season.”

The next meet is at 4 p.m. Jan. 26. The season ends on Feb. 9 and if they qualify for state, their season will end on March 9.
