According to Sex Health Club adviser Alison Luskey, when the club was first formed an agreement was established to have a source of correct sex information for the students.

Luskey said Feb. 27, the eight club leaders received official training from the myHealth clinic.

“The first training was about STIs. They went through the three categories of STIs, what testing is like, what treatment is like, what can happen if the STIs are not taken care of,” Luskey said.

Senior Dave Herrera is on the youth advisory board for myHealth, and helped set up the connection between the clinic and the club.

“myHealth backed us up starting the club from the beginning and said they would help us out in any possible way,” Herrera said. “That was a lot easier for us because one, they come to our school, and two, I actually work with the educators so I see them more often and I have their phone numbers.”

Senior Colin Monicatti is one of the eight leaders for the club and said he thinks the training was beneficial for the accuracy of the information they give out to other students.

“We will be able to give people accurate information, and we will be trained to answer their questions. A lot of the basic info, we knew. But, especially with the STIs, she introduced us to things we didn’t know about,” Monicatti said.

Luskey said she thinks the training is a great tool in addition to normal health class in school.

“I think the training is a fabulous idea because kids are hearing from a very reputable source, directly from myHealth,” Luskey said. “I think you get stuff in health class and if you get it one or two times, it can take a bit longer to sink in. So I think getting through it more thoroughly is helpful.”
