With over 63 competing teams, each equipped with three robots, the 10,000 Lakes Regionals is the ultimate showcase for the Robotics club’s talent.

The competition this year is formatted differently from what the club expected. Senior captain Francis Thelen said it’s not as competitive as previous years.

“[This year] you’re not directly competing with the other side. You have three robots on your team and your goal is to collect more points than the other side,” Thelen said.

The robotics team is getting ready by completing their robot and planning for when they get to the event space.

“In the competition, you get a 10×10 area where you can put your stuff. Now, we’re planning out what we’re bringing. We taped off an area and mock up what’s going to be there at the competition.

With a new “Recycle Rush” theme focusing on repurposing ordinary items, the club has gained a lot of experience while also having fun, according to Thelen.

“This is the coolest robot we’ve built. We have more people than previous years. If nothing else, it will get the new kids involved in the process.”

The 10,000 Lakes Regionals competition will take place April 1-4.
