Trip included performance, sightseeing

The choir’s most recent performance took place in the Golden State amid palm trees, sunscreen, Mickey Mouse and Elsa.
According to choir director John Myszkowski, 38 students embarked on a journey of sightseeing and singing in April 16-19 in California.
Myszkowski said the choir members arrived in Los Angeles early Thursday morning and went straight to Disneyland, where they performed a medley of Disney music.
“They had done a full, choreographed 25-minute show and the kids did very well at the performance,” Myszkowski said. “All the dance moves and the expressions were outstanding.”
Myszkowski said the choir participated in a workshop the next day, and had the rest of the day to tour Disneyland.
“They had to sight read two pieces within 15 minutes at full tempo, which was a little bit tricky,” Myszkowski said. “That was highly educational and motivating, and I think kids felt very positive about it because they were able to do a really good job within such a short span of time.”
Senior choir member Rebecca Robbins said the workshop was difficult but an enjoyable learning experience nonetheless.
“Learning the music fast was really hard but also it was cool to see what it would be like if you were a professional,” Robbins said.
Saturday was a day of sightseeing in Los Angeles, according to Myszkowski, and ended with attending a Broadway production of “Cinderella.”
“Kids were amazed with the quality of the show. They did some technological things with costume changes that were amazing. The Cinderella literally on stage changed from one costume to another in a second,” Myszkowski said.
Freshman choir member Ben Romain said seeing Los Angeles was his favorite part of the trip.
“We went to Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles and Beverly Hills and we went around and toured a lot of places and it was pretty cool,” Romain said.
Looking back, Robbins said she was glad to have participated in the excursion.
“Overall it was an amazing trip,” Robbins said.
