Club benefits both clients and volunteers

After talking to a student seeking support from the Natural Helpers club, junior Rand Phillips feels satisfied about the positive impact he made.
Phillips became involved in the club to help influence a client’s outlook on life.
“I joined the Natural Helpers because proving to someone that it gets better or that they can find a reason to be happy is the best kind of feeling,” Phillips said.
Phillips said his membership in the club has been rewarding.
“My favorite part about being a peer counselor is the feeling that I have helped someone, knowing that I can be there for someone when they need it,” Phillips said.
Phillips said his favorite memory since joining the Natural Helpers was training day.
“Our training day has been my favorite part so far. We took a day off from classes and enjoyed the entire day together finding different ways to get to know each other,” Phillips said.
So far, Phillips said his experience with the club has been meaningful and hopes to continue being a peer counselor next year.
“My experience with the Natural Helpers has been great”, Phillips said. “The current peer counselors are so passionate and it makes going so much fun. I hope that I will be a peer counselor next year as well.”
Phillips said students should consider joining the Natural Helpers because the club gives people the opportunity to meet new faces.
“Join, it’s fun. You make new friends and you get to meet people you never thought you would. You’re helping others and it’s a great learning experience. You won’t regret it,” Phillips said.
