Concert includes songs from the 2000s, senior recital

For the 10th year in his career as choir director, John Myszkowski works with the choir members to prepare for the upcoming decade-themed Pops concert and senior recital.
Myszkowski said this year the choir will perform an arrangement of pieces from the year 2000 on, because the 2010s are not a complete decade.
“They’ve got a mixture of things like ‘High School Musical,’ ‘Skyfall,’ ‘She Will be Loved’ and some Green Day mixed in with solos,” Myszkowski said.
The 2000s concert will begin 6 p.m. May 28 in the cafeteria, and will include several solos from underclassmen. Myszkowski said attendees could pre-order pizza and drinks on the tickets.
Sophomore choir member Camaja Byrd said she looks forward to performing her duet of “Since You’ve Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson in the Pops concert.
“I can’t wait to show people my true talent,” Byrd said.
After the Pops concert, around 7 p.m., the concert will proceed to the auditorium for the senior recital. Myskowski said seniors have the opportunity to perform a solo.
Senior choir member Andrew Lindstrom said he is in the process of rehearsing for his solo in the senior recital.
“I’m doing ‘Go the Distance’ from ‘Hercules.’ I’ve been practicing with my voice teacher, practicing alone and with Mrs. Scherer (the accompanist) when she’s here,” Lindstrom said.
Lindstrom said he looks forward to the senior recital as it marks the final accomplishment in his four-year choir career.
“I’m really excited about it because it’s a tradition like any other for all the seniors,” Lindstrom said. “We get to sing a song that really means a lot to us.”
Senior Carly Donald said in past years, students have become emotional at the recital. She said she thinks this year will be no different.
“I’ve been with these people, some of them since third grade, a lot of them for six years and throughout high school and just not being in choir with them anymore will be a really weird thing,” Donald said.
Freshman Sudesh Deon, who is not in choir, said he thinks students should come to the concert to hear their classmates sing.
“I think everyone should come and support them,” Deon said.
