Sexual Health Education Club to continue next year
Group is optimistic about the future of the club

The Sexual Health Education Club (SHEC) wrapped up the year with a final meeting about consent on May 28 and are looking onward toward next year’s plans, according to club adviser and health teacher, Alison Luskey.
“Recently in SHEC, there was another training done by the myHealth group that came in to train the core leadership group of students,” Luskey said. That was the second training this year, and it will be ongoing through next year.”
Luskey said she is very proud of the leaders of the group as she has observed them throughout the year.
“From the beginning of the year, the leaders of the group weren’t even sure if it was going to be accepted as a student forum group, and it was,” Luskey said. “I think that is a really big accomplishment. Those three students, Dave, Brita and Shoshi, are hopefully leaving with a sense of accomplishment for what they did: to start one of the only sexual health education clubs in the state.”
Senior and club founder, Shoshi Fischman, said she enjoyed seeing the student involvement in the group.
“They care and want to learn about this stuff and they like being there. I think it’s benefitted students because it has given them the place to talk about this subject that they otherwise wouldn’t have,” Fischman said.
Senior and committee member, Colin Monicatti, encourages students to attend the club next year.
“I would like to see a larger attendance next year,” Monicatti said. “I hope that kids from all grades come so they can all share their experiences. Just come if you have any questions that you’re too afraid to ask your parents. It’s an open forum, we don’t judge anyone and it’s a good place to get help if you need it.”
The three founders of the club are selecting several committed members to take on the leadership role next year, according to Luskey.
“I want the momentum to continue,” Luskey said. “A key piece is that it is student led. I’m in the background, so they decide where to take it and I think that’s really important.”
