Q: Where are you from?
A: Green Bay, Wisconsin
Q: Why did you become a counselor?
A: “I had met with my school counselor in high school and talked to her a lot about it and she made it seem like a really cool profession to work in. It is really rewarding. Then, I went on to shadow somebody that I knew that was a school counselor and I just loved it.”
Q: What do you do as an intern?
A: “Check in with the counselors and see what they have planned for the day.”
Q: What’s the best part of your internship?
A: “Meeting the kids, getting to know people, getting to know their stories, giving them somebody to talk to. That’s always the best part.”
Kayla Denner
Q: Where are you from?
A: Eldridge, Iowa
Q: Why did you become a counselor?
A: “I used to teach gymnastics in St. Louis Park at the Little Gym. It’s not competitive and so a big part of my job was creating relationships with the families trying to figure out the best ways to get them integrated into their classes. A lot of that was trying to get them used to the class and figure out what works best at home and how they behaved. I really liked the psychology behind their behavior.”
Q: What do you do as an intern?
A: “Right now it’s a lot of shadowing, since all four counselors work with different grades.”
Q: What’s the best part of your internship?
A: “The relationships with people. I don’t enjoy being alone and in this job, you’re never alone and that’s totally fine with me.”
