Team identifies strengths and weaknesses after first meet
November 9, 2015
“We were 10 points away from advancing to the playoffs and we kept close with one of the best teams in the state,” Hunegs said.
According to quiz bowl adviser Peter Dangerfield, the meet took place Oct. 31 at St. Olaf against 32 other teams.
Dangerfield said the team excelled with confidence and enthusiasm.
“I’ve got freshmen on the team, and they’re playing against teams that are loaded with seniors,” Dangerfield said. “They’re not intimidated by who’s sitting across from them.”
Hunegs said he thinks the team did well with self-control when buzzing in to answer questions.
“I think we were good at buzzing in right away only when we knew the answer,” Hunegs said.
Hunegs also said he felt ready for the meet and appreciates the manageability of the club’s expectations.
“I like how we meet once a week, so it’s not a huge commitment, but I still felt prepared,” Hunegs said.
Dangerfield said he thinks gaining experience with the content and competition format is the best way for the team to improve.
“They need more time competing against these teams to get more confidence (and) they need to hear more questions,” Dangerfield said.
Hunegs said he looks forward to improving and likes the excitement of the matches.
“The most exciting part is when we won on the last question because we answered all three of the bonus questions, which gave us the lead and the win,” Hunegs said.
