From flapper dresses to greased hair, this year’s Sadie Hawkins dance provides a new source of entertainment for all students, according to DECA adviser Sophia Ross.

After planning for several weeks, DECA announced this year’s theme, Dancing Through the Decades Nov. 16. According to Ross, students should dress as someone from their favorite time period between the 1920s and present day.

Girls traditionally ask guys to the dance, but this year DECA, will approach Sadies differently by making it more group-oriented.

“We think it will be more enjoyable if we make it more of a group thing, where friends can get together and plan what they’re going to wear,” Ross said.

According to Ross, DECA added dance battles this year in hopes of becoming the new main attraction. Students can choreograph dances or dance freestyle in the era they choose to represent.

”We think the dance battle will bring in a lot of students,” Ross said. “Being able to see all the different fashions from the decades will be really fun.”

Ross said the music of this dance will also appeal to students. After purchasing a ticket, students can request songs they want to hear, creating a fun environment.

Ross said DECA anticipates the attendance surpassing the homecoming numbers because of the new theme.

“It gives people a sense of community, especially for the seniors,” Ross said. “The dance is about creating memories and I think it’s very important to take part in that.”

Junior DECA member Talia Simonett said she predicts an increase in attendance because of the new theme and increased creativity.

“The new theme gives students more room to be themselves,” Simonett said. “This dance allows students to go to a dance that allows them to be whatever or whoever they want to be.”

The event will take place at 7-11 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Metropolitan Ballroom and Clubhouse. Tickets are on sale during all four lunches until Nov. 24.
