Although sophomore Megan Perkins does not always attend church, she tries to keep God close to her in every aspect of her life, including sports.
“I keep Christ in mind through sports and my daily life,” Perkins said. “A big part of my faith journey has been hope; believing in him gives me hope.”
Perkins said faith in God helped her have a more positive outlook about herself.
“When I don’t believe in myself, I know he always will,” Perkins said. “He gives me a reason to be the best that I can be.”
Perkins said thanks to Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), she has a place to learn about different perspectives besides her church.
“It gives me another safe place where I can explore what I believe in without being judged, but rather encouraged,” Perkins said.
Adviser Tim Sension said their last meeting shed light on the concept of a Christian athlete.
“We talked about what it means to be a Christian athlete and how they can live out their faith through their sport,” Sension said.
Sension said the last two meetings show a high level of commitment from the members to the club.
“It’s important to them to be a part of those monthly meetings and also be there to support each other,” Sension said. “They take that part of their life very seriously.”
Senior Gavin Peterson said growing up in a Christian household granted him the chance to get his life started on the right track.
“I use Christianity as a moral compass to guide me through my life,” Peterson said.
The club will see the Minnesota Teen Challenge choir Dec. 12 at their annual Christmas concert at Graves Church in Eden Prairie.
