Although the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering mentorship may run out of time for its renovation project, it currently stands in a great place, according to senior member Justin Less.

The Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Club worked on its historical renovation project for four months. Less said even though it only has until March 3 to finish its redevelopment of the Minneapolis Armory, group members appear confident.

“Coming from my perspective, since I was here last year, I think we are miles ahead of where we were last year and have much better direction and cooperation,” Less said.

Less said each member of ACE currently works on designing their own personal room. He said the members keep track of the details of their individual space.

“We’ve assigned rooms to where each of our ideas are going to go in the building,” Less said. “Now we’re going more in-depth into each room and we’ve assigned different people to different rooms. Their job is to go into their space and find out where we’re going to put certain things.”

Throughout the project, assigned mentors from the ACE mentorship program came in and provided guidance to the members. Club adviser Al Wachutka said the ACE mentors played a big role in making sure the project went smoothly.

“The mentors this year took a lot more direction,” Wachutka said. “Instead of letting people be free-flowing, they’ve guided people to work as part of a team.”

Wachutka said ACE members must finish multiple steps before they complete the project.

“There’s still a lot left to be done,” Wachutka said. “They have ideas at this point and are starting to fit pieces together and now we have to do a lot of cost analysis and looking at structural things — if the ideas are feasible within the structures of the armory.”

Senior club member Jerry Somaiah said he feels confident the club will finish its project in time.

“We still need to finalize the design and put all our individual jobs together,” Somaiah said. “I feel like if we keep working individually it’ll all work out in the end.”

The club continues to meet at 3:30 every Thursday until March 3, the day of the ACE competition at the University of Minnesota.
