March 10, 2016
When health teacher Allison Luskey received a thank you letter from National Honor Society members, she felt honored knowing she makes a difference in students’ learning.
“It makes your day when you hear that somebody appreciates what you do and it really encourages you to keep going and keep trying,” Luskey said. “For a student to take time to say thank you, it means a lot.”
National Honor Society (NHS) adviser Jenny Magdal said members made thank you cards for teachers because it brightens the mood of the school.
“We wanted to improve the environment of school and we thought writing thank you notes to teachers would be a great way,” Magdal said. “We tried to give each teacher at least two.”
Magdal said the thank you letters intended to show gratitude for the effort teachers put into their work.
“We did it right before Valentine’s Day and it was written on a heart that said ‘thanks for putting your heart into teaching,’” Magdal said. “They also got chocolate hearts.”
Senior NHS secretary Jessica Schmidt said the members write thank you letters to teachers every year.
“We do it every year to show appreciation for the teachers,” Schmidt said. “ I think it’s important to make sure to thank the people who make so much of our success possible with what they do.”
The next meeting takes place April 13.
