After one year as a club, Medical Educational Development  (MED) club will end the year with its last two speakers, according to adviser Casie Budolfson.

According to Budolfson and club president senior Kaylee Chamberlain, the last two meetings of the year feature a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and a medical social worker. According to the American Osteopathic Association, a DO is a licensed physician who practice in all areas of medicine but focus on a whole-person approach for treatment.

Junior Talia Simonett said she looks forward to the MED club speakers because of the opportunity they provide to get an inside to the daily routines of the speakers, along with the path they took to obtain their respective jobs.

“I’m looking forward to finding more about what the speaker does in their everyday life as working as a medical social worker,” Simonett said. “I’m excited to be able to get the opportunity to actually talk with them and find out more about how they got to where they are today.”

Simonett said the MED club meetings and speakers give students a greater insight into what jobs and career paths they are looking into.

“I think these speakers are good for the students because it provides them these wonderful people who actually work as something who these students may actually want to be in the future,” Simonett said.

Budolfson said she enjoyed the turnout for this year’s speakers and hopes the meetings continue with new and different speakers next year.

“I thought we had a great range of speakers and we had more than I thought we would have,” Budolfson said. “I think it was a good base for us this year and hopefully we’ll kinda keep adding onto it next year.”

According to Chamberlain, the next meeting features the DO 8 a.m. May 19 in room A310, while the following meeting features the medical social worker at 7:45 a.m. May 23 in room A310.
