Race to graduation
Construction team tries to finish stadium renovations
June 3, 2016
With less than a week before the graduation commencement ceremony, Athletic Director Andy Ewald said there is still a significant amount of work that has to be done on the stadium renovations.
“Our goal has always been to finish the renovations by graduation, and that is what is stated in our contract with the company we are using,” Ewald said.
The stadium renovations started in early spring after the school received a grant from Hennepin County and funding from the school district.
Ewald said that if not everything is finished by graduation, he would at least like for some aspects to be usable to make graduation more functional.
“The two main concerns is if the sound system will work and if the lights will work by graduation,” Ewald said. “If anything we need flat surfaces near the entrances to ease accessibility.”
Senior Elijah Tenta said he would really like if the renovations were done so the safety of those at graduation is ensured.
“It would be nice if the construction was done by then because it would look better for graduation,” Tenta said. “When people see our stadium at graduation it is a direct representation of our school, and we want to represent our school in the best way possible.”
Ewald said whether or not the renovations are done by the ceremony, the school district will do everything possible to make graduation special for attendees.
“If the renovations are complete by then, great, but if they are not we will still try to make the night memorable,” Ewald said.
